Lead YGLN in your country
We are building a volunteer country team in every country: a Country Lead, a Programmes and Service Officer and a Communications and Membership Officer. Together they welcome new members, run local activity and open doors for young leaders where they live.
Our members are in many countries. Our leadership needs to be there too.
Fellows join YGLN from across Africa and beyond, often from countries where we have no one on the ground. A country team gives them a local home: people who know the place, bring members together and connect them to everything the network offers.
A local home for members
New Fellows are welcomed by someone in their own country, not only by an email from the Global Hub.
Activity people can attend
Networking evenings, webinars, clinics and community projects that turn a membership into a network.
A recognised voice for YGLN
Working relationships with universities, employers, youth bodies and the United Nations country team, under one name.
Three posts, one team
All three are voluntary, so each is kept focused. Admissions, payments and membership records stay with the Global Hub. The country team looks after the community.
Country Lead
- Leads the country team and sets its plan each quarter
- Represents YGLN with universities, employers, youth bodies and public bodies
- Grows the network, with every member applying and paying centrally
- Reports to the Global Hub each quarter
Nigeria and Sierra Leone already have a Country Lead, so we are recruiting a Co-Country Lead in each.
Programmes and Service Officer
- Plans and runs the quarterly activity calendar
- Helps Fellows plan and complete their yearly community service project
- Hosts local Kickstart venture clinic sessions with the Global Hub
Communications and Membership Officer
- Welcomes every new member within two weeks of joining
- Runs the country's YGLN social media on accounts the Global Hub owns
- Tells the story of each activity and leads outreach to new members
What a country team helps members do
Every YGLN Fellow grows in four ways. The country team makes each one real where members live.
Character and values
A warm welcome and people to learn from.
- A personal welcome for every new member, and the Fellows' Pledge they make on joining
- Local mentoring circles alongside YGLN group mentorship
Leadership
Skills members can use the next day.
- Masterclasses and webinars run with the Global Hub
- Encouragement through CLDP certification
Service and reach
Leadership that reaches the community.
- Support for every Fellow's yearly community service project
- Delegations to the Young African Leaders Summit
Enterprise and opportunity
Openings that come from being connected.
- Local Kickstart venture clinic sessions
- Introductions to employers and partners in the country
People who already bring others together
This is you
- You live in the country you would serve and know how things work there for young people.
- You are 25 to 45 for Country Lead, or 21 to 45 for either Officer post.
- You have built or run something: a society, a team, a programme, an event or a network.
- You can give a few hours a month, steadily, for a year.
- You write and speak clearly in English, and in French, Portuguese or Arabic where your country needs it.
- You do not have to be a YGLN member to apply.
This is not
- A paid job or a source of income. The posts are unpaid, and no one in a country team collects money from members.
- A platform for a political party or campaign. YGLN is non-partisan.
- A title to hold without activity. Anyone inactive for two quarters steps down.
- A way to promote your own business or organisation without telling us first.
