These terms are the agreement between you and the Young Global Leaders Network when you apply for membership, become a member or take part in our programmes. Please read them before you apply. By sending an application you confirm you accept them.
About us
The Young Global Leaders Network LBG (“YGLN”, “we”, “us”) is a company limited by guarantee registered in Ghana. We hold Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. You can contact us at membership@yglnetwork.com.
Who can join
Membership is open to people aged 18 to 45 who share our commitment to leadership in the service of others. There are two tiers, Fellow Member and Executive Fellow, described with their benefits and fees on our membership page.
Applying
- Everything in your application must be true, your own words and about you. The passport photograph must be a recent photograph of you.
- If you apply at the Africa rate, you must live in an African country and send proof of where you live. We may ask for a different document if the one you send does not show your address.
- We read every application and may accept or decline it. We will tell you either way.
- Partner codes give the discount stated when you use them, cannot be combined and cannot be exchanged for cash.
Fees and payment
There is nothing to pay when you apply. If we accept your application, we email you an offer with the payment details and the date we will hold your place until. If payment has not arrived by that date, we may withdraw the offer.
Fees are shown in US dollars and paid in US dollars, by card through our payment link or by bank transfer. Where we show an amount in your local currency, it is a guide only. Your bank may charge for conversion or transfer.
Your membership starts when your payment has cleared and we send you your portal sign in details, and it runs for twelve months from that day.
Renewal and upgrades
- Membership does not renew automatically. We remind you thirty days and seven days before your renewal date, and you choose whether to renew.
- Renewing early never shortens your year: the new twelve months begin the day the current year ends.
- If you do not renew, everything keeps working for fourteen days after your renewal date. After that your membership lapses, your profile leaves the directory and your badge no longer verifies. Renewing within twelve months restores your number and your history.
- A Fellow Member can upgrade to Executive Fellow at any time by paying the difference for the rest of the year, as shown on the portal.
Refunds
Membership fees are not refundable once your payment has been received and your portal sign in details have been sent to you. This applies to renewals and upgrades too.
Benefits
Benefits are described on our membership page and in the portal. We may improve or change them, and where a change takes away something important that you have paid for, we will tell you and offer you a fair remedy.
Some benefits depend on others. Attendance at United Nations sessions is subject to accreditation by the United Nations, and study abroad outcomes depend on the universities and funders concerned, so neither can be guaranteed. Discounts on events run by others, such as the Young African Leaders Summit, follow that event’s own terms.
The Fellows’ Pledge and how we treat each other
Every member makes the Fellows’ Pledge, which includes completing a community service project each membership year. We expect members to:
- treat other members, mentors, staff and partners with respect, online and in person;
- keep YGLN non-partisan, and never use membership for personal or political gain;
- speak in YGLN’s name only when asked to;
- use other members’ details only for the purpose they were shared for, and never add them to mailing lists or pass them on;
- not post anything unlawful, abusive, misleading or that belongs to someone else, and not use the portal to advertise or send unsolicited messages.
Your badge, certificate and membership number
Your digital badge, membership letter and certificates confirm your membership while it is current. You may share them, but you must not alter them or present them as current after your membership has lapsed. The YGLN name and logos belong to us and may be used only as our brand guidelines allow.
What you post
You keep ownership of what you post in the portal. You give us permission to show it to the members it is meant for and to keep it while your account is open. We may remove anything that breaks these terms.
Country teams and volunteers
Members appointed to country teams, mentors and other volunteers also follow the terms in their letter of appointment or mentor agreement. Volunteer posts are unpaid, carry no authority to sign agreements or collect money on YGLN’s behalf, and can be ended by either side.
Suspending or ending membership
You can end your membership at any time by writing to us. We may suspend or end a membership if a member seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms or the Pledge, gave false information when applying, or puts other members at risk. Except in urgent cases, we will tell you what is wrong and give you a chance to respond first.
Our responsibility to you
We take care to run our programmes well, but we are not responsible for losses we could not reasonably have foreseen, for the acts of other members or third parties, or for events outside our control. Nothing in these terms limits any responsibility that cannot be limited by law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. We will tell members by email about any change that affects them, and the terms in force when you renew apply to your new year.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ghana, and the courts of Ghana deal with any dispute. This does not take away any rights you have under the law of the country where you live.
